International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies
Newsletter Vol 6 - No 2 | June 2022

President's Message

It is very exciting to write this message for this Newsletter after the amazing Scientific Congress a few weeks ago in Vancouver, Canada. The Congress was wonderful, giving us a chance to finally see colleagues in-person after so many virtual meetings and conversations. It was also uplifting to see new attendees and members – students, residents, fellows, junior attendings and patient advocacy representatives participating in the meeting, mingling during the breaks and the congress dinner at the Aquarium. I hope those of you who participated remotely had a fruitful experience (and hope we can see you in person at future meetings).

These past few years have been a challenge to us all. As you know, the 2020 meeting was slated to be held in Vancouver, Canada, however, we needed to postpone that meeting 2022. I would like to extend heartfelt thanks to:

Thank you also to Tony Penington, who has been a steadfast President over the past two years. As I told Tony, I have big shoes to fill (literally and figuratively!). I am thankful for his mentorship and I am also grateful to the many Past Presidents of ISSVA, with whom I have worked.

I am also grateful for the ISSVA Board, who works together as a cohesive group with a common objective to uphold the mission of the society “to promote the highest standards of care for patients with vascular anomalies by advancing clinical and scientific knowledge concerning causes, diagnosis and treatment, and by education of physicians, health care providers, patients and the community.”

Despite the pandemic, ISSVA has grown in breadth, depth and membership the past few years. We are now professionally managed, financially sound, and have our own journal, the Journal of Vascular Anomalies (JoVA). As ISSVA grows, I encourage you to get involved with our committees and ongoing initiatives, such as the Education Committee, Classification update, Newsletter and more; to volunteer, please email the ISSVA Secretariat at: info@issva.org.

I look forward to working with you all, and thank you for entrusting me in this role.

Francine Blei
President, ISSVA
